As a member and more importantly the father of our lodge, we want to say how immensely proud we are that a member of our lodge has achieved such high office and executed the duties in such a dignified manner. We would like to show our appreciation to you personally for all the time, effort and consideration - otherwise known as blood sweat and tears - that you have put into the province of Sussex during your nine and a half years as PGM.

I think it is fair to say that few, if any, PGM's that have come before or after you will have to face some of the things you have had to in terms of a global pandemic, which resulted in the loss of too many fellow masons in tragic circumstances as well as those that just fell away as a result of the awful situation it created at that time. Despite that, the number of Masons in Sussex has remained steady which is a testament to the skill of your guidance.

It is fair to say you have guided the province in a friendly, amiable and respectful way and with a firm but fair manner which has earned the admiration of the brethren from all over Sussex and means that you leave the province in a much better position to move forward into the future.

You should also be immensely proud of everything you have done and I can assure you that I speak on behalf of the province in general and this the Hinge of Friendship Lodge number 8708 in particular when I say how thankful we are and as a small token of that gratitude, I would like to present you with this gift, on behalf of the members of this lodge, which is a decanter and three wine glasses.

The glasses are each engraved with three dates, one has the date you were initiated, passed and raised in craft masonry, the second the date you were promoted to Provincial Senior Grand Warden, then Assistant Provincial Grand Master and finally Provincial Grand Master. The third glass shows the two dates you were installed as master of this lodge previously and I have taken the liberty of adding the date that I will have the greatest of pleasure to Install you into the Chair of King Solomon of this lodge for the third time on the 1st of April 2026. The decanter is engraved with all nine of those dates.

Thank you, Chris, for everything!

September 2024: Going Over the Top

The Provincial Grand Master of Sussex Freemasons, Chris Moore, taking another step in Freemasonry. With a group of around 40 volunteers - including his wife Mrs. Veronica Moore - who braved it, to go over the top of Peacehaven cliffs in Sussex.

With thanks to the brethren, their families and friends who helped raise over £22,000 (including gift aid) raised via the 2028 Festival initiative. Over 600 individual donations for the Sussex 2028 Festival, for the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF).

November 2022: Festival 28 Launch Event

Brethren, family and friends from the Lodges in the Crawley and East Grinstead Masonic Centres raised £820 during a 'Casino Night' held at the Ifield Golf Club to launch the Sussex 2028 Festival. Our MCF and Provincial visitors were W Bro Suhail Alam, Head of Digital and Technology at the MCF, and W Bro Mark Buckle, APGM.

Skill on the casino tables might be a sign of a misspent youth, but surely not this time... the first prize of a Jazz Lunch Cruise on the Thames was won by Jan Gurr, which she kindly donated to be auctioned; Mark Buckle’s partner Kelly Jones, won a trial session for two at the Northall Clay Pigeon Club; and Vicki Smith won an Afternoon Tea at Ashdown Park hotel.

The evening finished with W Bro Ryan Smith auctioning a cruise for 6 around Windsor on W Bro Steve Gurr's launch and, in addition, Jan's prize of the Jazz Lunch Cruise.

Thank you to everyone who supported the evening and especially to Steve and Jan Gurr and W Bro Dan Kerwood of the Northall Clay Pigeon Club for their generosity.
